Barley grows in the tilled squares inside a Fuling Village, so your first handful has to be taken from the Fulings of the Plains instead of grown at home.
Farming
- Barley grows naturally in several places.
- Fuling Villages have small patches of cultivated land, where you can usually find 12 planted Barley ready to harvest for two Barley each.
- Barley also turns up in the Plains Chests in Fuling Villages, Fuling Outposts and Fuling Ruins.
- You can only plant and harvest Barley in the Plains, using a Cultivator. It takes between 4000s and 5000s to fully grow, which is between 66m40s and 83m20s, or about 2.22-2.78 in-game days.
- Planting and growing a single Barley with the Cultivator gives you 2 Barley.
Barley is both the crop and the seed: put part of the harvest back in the ground and mill or spin the rest. It will not grow outside the Plains.

How to Get It
Fuling villages have small patches of cultivated ground with barley already growing, and the chests in villages, outposts and ruins hold loose grain too. Pick it by hand or cut it with a Scythe. You do not need an axe or pickaxe, just a way to deal with the Fulings and the Deathsquitoes overhead. Hitting a ripe plant with a weapon also knocks grain loose, but it gives no skill experience. Once you have seed, barley will only take root in Plains soil turned with a Cultivator, so your farm has to be in the biome that grows it.
Notes
- Fully grown Barley drops two Barley when damaged by weapons, so AoE attacks work, such as the Stagbreaker, the Iron Sledge or a Polearm secondary attack. You lose no Barley, but these methods give no experience towards the Farming skill and the chance of extra drops will not trigger. That makes a Scythe or harvesting by hand potentially better for drops.
