Legendary Griffin Steel Sword is the NG+ variant of the Basic Griffin Steel Sword, witcher gear from the base game. It deals 126.4-154.4 damage at level 12 and gives +21% sign intensity. Its diagram lies on a skeleton at Hindhold in Velen. It needs level 11 plus the NG+ starting level.
It also gives +25% crit damage, +5% crit chance and +5% bonus experience from humans and nonhumans, with 3 rune slots. Against the regular Griffin Steel Sword, it raises sign intensity from 5% to 21%, adds both crit bonuses and has 3 rune slots instead of 1. Its damage rises by 7.2-8.8 per level.
Set Bonus
The Griffin set is medium armor. It has five tiers: Basic at level 11, Enhanced at 18, Superior at 26, Mastercrafted at 34 and Grandmaster at 40. The 3-piece and 6-piece bonuses come from Grandmaster pieces worn as a school set. 3 pieces: after a sign cast in standard mode with stamina, the next sign cast within 3 seconds costs no stamina. 6 pieces: Yrden traps are 40% larger, and inside the trap stamina regeneration rises by 5 per second, sign intensity rises by 100% and damage taken drops by 20%.
How to Get Legendary Griffin Steel Sword
- In NG+, go to Hindhold in Velen.
- Loot the diagram from the skeleton, next to Balstick's letter.
- A journeyman blacksmith crafts it.

The pin marks Hindhold, a ruined fort in Velen. The Legendary Griffin Steel Sword diagram lies on a skeleton behind a wooden door at the top of the fort, with Balstick's letter. It replaces the standard diagram at this spot in New Game +, during Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear, and a journeyman blacksmith crafts the sword from it.
- Start Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear by finding any of its diagrams, or by buying one of Edwin Greloff's maps from the armorer in Midcopse.
- Travel to Hindhold and kill the endrega workers and warriors on the way up.
- Climb the ladders and wooden platforms to the harpy nest at the top, killing the harpies.
- Go through the wooden door up there. Loot the crate and read Witcher George's confession.
- Loot the skeleton for Balstick's letter and the steel sword diagram.
