Critical Hits

Critical hits run on two weapon stats: crit chance and crit damage. Weapons list them as "Critical hit chance" and "Critical hit damage bonus". Gear, decoctions, potions, skills and mutations all raise them.

How It Works

  • Witcher gear and many relic items have fixed effects.
  • Common, master and magic items roll random effects, more of them at higher rarity.
  • A sword hit from a full gallop on horseback is usually a critical hit.

Gear That Adds Crits

Item Image Crit Chance Crit Damage
Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword (Relic) Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword +20% +100%
Ancient Elven Sword Ancient Elven Sword +15% +50%
Katakan Decoction Katakan Decoction +10% -

Skills

Remastered rebuilt the skill trees with three ranks per skill. Rank 1 values:

  • Cat School Techniques: +8% crit damage and +2% fast attack damage per piece of light armor.
  • Battle Frenzy: +3% crit chance per available Adrenaline Point.
  • Crippling Strike: crits from fast attacks cripple enemies, who then take 10% more damage.
  • Maiming Shot: after a crit from a weapon or Sign, the next crossbow shot disables monster special abilities for 4 seconds.
  • Hunter Instinct: at maximum Adrenaline, +20% crit damage against the targeted enemy type when the correct oil is applied.
  • High Tolerance: at 80% Toxicity or more, crit damage rises by 33% of current Toxicity, but Geralt takes 150% damage from enemies.

Mutations

  • Magic Sensibilities: Signs can crit, with crit chance and crit damage scaling with Sign intensity. Enemies killed by Sign crits explode.
  • Cat Eyes: +50% crossbow crit chance among its crossbow bonuses.

Before Remastered

Old Cat School Techniques gave +25% crit damage per piece of light armor. Killing Spree raised crit chance by 10% per level for each enemy killed while potion Toxicity was above 0. Hunter Instinct gave +20% crit damage per level against the targeted enemy type at maximum Adrenaline.
