Roadside Picnic is a reported crime in Coastview, Pacifica. A scavenger called Nina Chelo kept slipping past the wall into the Combat Zone of Dogtown to bring back gear. On her last trip she was shot, and she died alone in the dark, still trying to tell her friend where she was.
Story
Alone
The journal is short. Her name was Nina, and she died alone and terrified. V will have to fill in the rest.
Beyond the Wall
A chat with her father, Peter Chelo, shows he saw it coming. He begs her to stop going beyond the wall. After what happened to him, she should know better. None of the people who send her on those runs will help when things go wrong. It is not worth it, he says, and he would know.
Track My Biomon
Her last chat is with her friend Lucy Thackery. Nina had been scavenging in Dogtown, past the wall, when the people of some general, as she put it, shot her. She was bleeding heavily. Lucy could not track her biomonitor, as someone had turned it off. Nina did not know where she was, only that it was dark and there were homeless people around. She sent coordinates and a pass, but they were the wrong address. Lucy begged her to send her real location. There was no answer.
