Knight of the Solitary Gaol is a dungeon boss in Elden Ring. It is part of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
The Knight of the Solitary Gaol is the nameless spirit of a heartless knight, sealed in the Western Nameless Mausoleum of the Gravesite Plain. He fights like a Tarnished, switching between a steel greatsword and a repeating crossbow. The mausoleum shuts out spirit ashes. His reward is his greatsword and the full Solitude set of armor.
Lore
The knight wears heavy armor of overlapping steel plates that covers his whole body, with a black cloak over it. He carries a steel greatsword and a mechanized repeating crossbow.
The Knights of the Solitary Gaol gave up their hearts in a secret rite to gain greater battle prowess. They engraved their blades with two crests, one for the light of birth and one for solitude. The nameless mausoleums of the Realm of Shadow are said to hold the spirits of warriors who lost their names, or their hearts.

Attacks
- Crossbow volley: he opens with up to ten rapid bolts that track the player, some of them burning. Running diagonally or sideways and closing in avoids them.
- Greatsword slash: a slow, powerful swing from his right side. A roll to the player's right stays out of its path.
- Greatsword combos: longer strings as the fight goes on. A shield blocks or parries them for an opening.
- Healing flask: at half health he drinks once to heal a quarter of his health. The drink is a free chance to attack.
Tactics
- Collect a few Scadutree Fragments first, since a little blessing makes the fight much easier.
- Close the distance fast, because his crossbow punishes melee players who stay back.
- Roll to the right of his greatsword swings.
- Block or parry his attacks to open one or two hits.
- Use heavy attacks or Ash of War: Giant Hunt to break his stance.
- Punish his single flask drink at half health.
