Thops's Barrier is a Glintstone sorcery in Elden Ring. It is a mid-game find in the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
Thops's Barrier is the lifelong pursuit of Thops the Bluntstone, a theory ridiculed by sneering sorcerers that its description calls a discovery worthy of a new conspectus of the academy. It raises a magic forcefield that deflects most projectile sorceries, incantations and even some weapon skills to the side, and holding the cast keeps generating barriers with a shorter wind up, even after FP runs out. Physical projectiles such as arrows, mist spells, dragon incantations and melee-style spells pass through it, and deflected explosive spells like Cannon of Haima can still hurt the caster. The initial wind up is slow and telegraphed, so it works best when an attack is anticipated, and it is especially useful against the Elden Stars of the Elden Beast. It suits casters who face spell-heavy opponents in PvP or PvE.
Effect
Creates a magic forcefield that deflects incoming sorceries and incantations; holding the cast keeps creating barriers. Each cast costs 7 FP and 10 stamina and takes up one memory slot.
How to Get Thops's Barrier Guide
Thops's Barrier is looted from the body of Sorcerer Thops outside the Schoolhouse Classroom in the Academy of Raya Lucaria, after he has been given a spare Academy Glintstone Key.
- Talk to Sorcerer Thops at the Church of Irith in Liurnia of the Lakes.
- Find the second Academy Glintstone Key inside the Academy of Raya Lucaria; Thops refuses the key found near Glintstone Dragon Smarag.
- Give the key to Thops at the Church of Irith to receive the Erudition gesture.
- Go to the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace in the Academy.
- Loot Thops's body at the desk outside that room to get Thops's Barrier.
