Liurnia of the Lakes is a vast region of lakes and wetlands in the west of the Lands Between. Most of its land is slowly sinking into the water, and fog hangs over its forests. The Academy of Raya Lucaria rises from the middle of the great lake. The Carian royal family once ruled here from their manor in the north-west. Liurnia is usually the second great region of a run, reached after Stormveil Castle.

Lore
Liurnia was the land of the Carian royal family and the home of glintstone sorcery. Rennala of the Full Moon charmed the Academy of Raya Lucaria and became its master. The house of Caria rose to royalty through her. Later, Rennala married Radagon at the Church of Vows. Their marriage joined the house of the Moon to the house of the Erdtree after their war.
Radagon left Rennala to become the second Elden Lord, and her heart broke. The academy locked her in its Grand Library and turned against the Carians. The Cuckoo Knights stormed Caria Manor, and the Carian Knights were caught off guard. War spread across the lakes. The Kingsrealm Ruins south of the manor still show the damage.
Rennala's daughter Ranni the Witch now dwells at the Three Sisters behind the manor. Her followers gather around her, and her quest leads through much of the region. Her old body lies in the Divine Tower of Liurnia, proof of her part in the Night of Black Knives. Far below the lake run the Ainsel River and the Lake of Rot. They lead to the Moonlight Altar, the plateau of the dark moon.
The Frenzied Flame burns in the north-east. The villagers there were driven mad, and a burning eye looks down from the Frenzy-Flaming Tower.
The Albinaurics once found shelter in Liurnia. Their village in the south-western cliffs was ransacked by the servants of Gideon Ofnir, who sought a medallion that opens the way to Miquella's Haligtree. Old Albus still hides there, disguised as a pot, with one half of that medallion.
Geography
Liurnia is entered from Limgrave through the throne room of Stormveil Castle or along a cliff path east of it. The southern shore holds the Church of Irith and the Lake-Facing Cliffs. The Stillwater Cave and the Lakeside Crystal Cave lie in the southern cliffs. The western landmass runs north past the Minor Erdtree, the Revenger's Shack and the Converted Tower. The Four Belfries and Caria Manor stand at its northern end.
The eastern shore follows a road north past Jarburg and the Carian Study Hall. The Church of Vows sits on a plateau above it. The Bellum Highway continues north to the Grand Lift of Dectus. The Ruin-Strewn Precipice climbs the cliffs to the west of it. Both lead up to the Altus Plateau.
The middle of the lake holds the academy and its sinking Gate Town. Islands and ruins rise from the shallows, among them the Laskyar Ruins, the Temple Quarter and the Boilprawn Shack. Glintstone Dragon Smarag sleeps on an island west of the academy and guards the key to its gate. The Moonlight Altar rises high above the south-west. It hides the Village of the Albinaurics in the cliffs below.
The Four Belfries on the western hill hold waygates to far places. With Imbued Sword Keys, they lead to the Chapel of Anticipation, to a corner of Nokron and to a broken piece of Crumbling Farum Azula. Sorcerers' towers stand around the lakes, and each is sealed by a riddle. Testu's Rise asks for three wise beasts, while the Converted Tower and the Converted Fringe Tower open to the Erudition gesture.
Ranni's quest shapes much of the journey through Liurnia. It begins at Ranni's Rise in the Three Sisters. It later leads through the Carian Study Hall, turned upside down by the Carian Inverted Statue, to the Divine Tower of Liurnia. Renna's Rise then opens a waygate down to the Ainsel River.
