Elden Ring - Incantations

Faith powers the incantations of the Lands Between, prayers cast through sacred seals that offer healing, buffs, fire, lightning and dragon breath beside or instead of a weapon.

How Incantations Work

• An incantation deals a percentage of the casting seal's Incantation Scaling, which grows with the seal's upgrade level and the caster's Faith. The Erdtree Seal scales on Faith alone, hybrid seals fold in a second stat, and the Frenzied Flame Seal blends Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Faith.
• Seals boost their own families, and the bonus applies from the off hand as well, so the Godslayer's Seal can add its 10% to black flame and the Frenzied Flame Seal its 20% to the flame of frenzy while another seal does the casting.
• The Faithful's Canvas Talisman raises incantation damage by 4% and the Flock's Canvas Talisman by 8%, while the Old Lord's Talisman stretches the duration of spells by 30%.
• Many attack incantations charge into a stronger cast at the same FP cost, and the Godfrey Icon adds 15% to charged spells, while Dragon Communion breaths extend their duration when held. Dexterity speeds casting up to 70, and the 30 virtual Dexterity of the Radagon Icon applies to incantations as well as sorceries.
• Brother Corhyn sells incantations at the Roundtable Hold before leaving to follow Goldmask, and Miriel, Pastor of Vows teaches from the Church of Vows in Liurnia of the Lakes; both learn new incantations from prayerbooks. D, Hunter of the Dead sells Golden Order incantations, Gowry sells Pest Threads from his shack in Caelid, and Gurranq, Beast Clergyman trades Bestial incantations for Deathroot at the Bestial Sanctum.
• Dragon Communion incantations cost Dragon Hearts instead of runes at the altars of the Church of Dragon Communion in Limgrave and the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid. Basic breaths such as Dragonfire take one heart, while named ones like Ekzykes's Decay take two and unlock only after the dragon that grants them is slain.

Builds

• Faith Buffer: This build fights with a weapon first and opens every battle by stacking Golden Vow with Flame, Grant Me Strength, then adds physical damage negation and healing over time from the same seal. Incantations: Golden Vow, Flame, Grant Me Strength, Black Flame's Protection, Blessing's Boon.
• Healer: A healer keeps a cooperative party standing. Healing reads only the Faith part of a seal's scaling, so a pure Faith seal such as the Erdtree Seal gets the most out of every prayer. Incantations: Heal, Lord's Heal, Erdtree Heal, Blessing's Boon.
• Dragon Communion: This build trades Dragon Hearts for breaths and claws and splits points between Faith and Arcane, so the Dragon Communion Seal can scale them and add its 15% boost. Incantations: Rotten Breath, Dragonclaw, Dragonice, Ekzykes's Decay, Bayle's Tyranny.
• Blood (Arcane): Blood casters pair Faith with Arcane for the Blood Oath incantations of Mohg, which spread blood loss through bloodflame and swarming bloodflies. Incantations: Bloodflame Blade, Swarm of Flies, Bloodboon, Bloodflame Talons.
• Strength-Faith: This build uses the Clawmark Seal, which scales incantations with Strength as well as Faith and boosts Bestial incantations by 10%, and pairs it with Flame, Grant Me Strength for extra physical damage. Incantations: Beast Claw, Bestial Sling, Stone of Gurranq, Gurranq's Beast Claw, Flame, Grant Me Strength.
• Dragon Cult Lightning: Lightning casters throw the lightning of the capital's dragon cult, boosted 15% by the Gravel Stone Seal, and a charged Lightning Spear calls a second bolt down on impact. Incantations: Lightning Spear, Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike, Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear, Frozen Lightning Spear.
• Giants' Flame: Fire casters hurl the flame of the Fire Giants, boosted 20% by the Giant's Seal, from early charged sparks to the slow, explosive Flame of the Fell God. Incantations: O, Flame!, Flame, Fall Upon Them, Giantsflame Take Thee, Burn, O Flame!, Flame of the Fell God.
• Golden Order: This build splits points between Intelligence and Faith to wield the Golden Order Seal, which scales with both stats and boosts Golden Order incantations by 10%. Incantations: Radagon's Rings of Light, Triple Rings of Light, Law of Regression, Litany of Proper Death, Order's Blade.

Notes

• Heal and Catch Flame from Brother Corhyn at the Roundtable Hold are two of the first incantations worth buying, and Flame, Grant Me Strength waits behind Fort Gael in Caelid for anyone who reaches it early.
• Brother Corhyn leaves the Roundtable Hold to follow Goldmask, and Corhyn's Bell Bearing turns up in Leyndell, Ashen Capital, where his journey ends.
• D, Hunter of the Dead dies at the Roundtable Hold during Fia's questline; D's Bell Bearing on his corpse returns Litany of Proper Death and Order's Blade to sale at the Twin Maiden Husks.
• Gowry's Bell Bearing, taken from his body in his shack, restores Pest Threads, and every teacher's bell bearing carries over any prayerbook already given to that teacher.
• Miriel, Pastor of Vows stays at the Church of Vows for good and accepts prayerbooks as well as scrolls, which makes him the safest teacher to hand books to.
