Glintstone Dragon Smarag is a great boss in Elden Ring.
Glintstone Dragon Smarag is a dragon whose scales have turned to glittering glintstone. It sleeps beside a rocky island in the lake of Liurnia, west of the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Beside it lies a dead sorcerer who carries the first Academy Glintstone Key. Its breath and projectiles deal heavy magic damage, and its body shrugs off sorcery.
Lore
Smarag is a great winged dragon covered in jagged, blue formations of glintstone. It breathes streams of sorcerous light and spits glintstone shards from its jaws.
Smarag was a devourer of sorcerers. Over time, the glintstones of those it ate corrupted its body.
It still guards the corpse of a glintstone sorcerer, and the key to the Academy lies in that dead hand.

Attacks
- Glintstone Cometshard: it raises its head and fires a fast magic shard, often twice; sprint diagonally toward it and charge a heavy attack on its lowered snout.
- Glintstone Breath Arc: a quick sweep of magic breath at medium range; run toward its flank.
- Glintstone Breath Stream: a slow, long stream of magic breath; ride or run across it toward the dragon.
- Flying Breath: it takes off and sprays glintstone across the ground; sprint or ride away at once.
- Stomps and Bites: close range stomps and lunging bites; stay near its back legs and roll the bites.
- Wing and Tail Sweeps: it sweeps the ground with its wings or spins with its tail; back away from the sweep.
Tactics
- Ride Torrent to dodge its breath and to close the gap when it flies off.
- Hit its forearms and legs until it collapses, then land a critical hit on the head.
- Use charged attacks, which land easily on its large body even from horseback.
- Wear armor with high magic and physical defense, since its breath is pure magic.
- Sorcerers should switch to physical spells such as Rock Sling, because magic barely hurts it.
- Lead the fight away from the Teardrop Scarabs, which refill flasks when killed.
