Elden Ring - Sorceries

Sorcery comes from the Academy of Raya Lucaria and the Carian royal family, and its glintstone arts are cast through staves on the strength of Intelligence. It suits players who fight from range or who turn a staff into a conjured blade.

How Sorceries Work

• Every sorcery deals a percentage of the casting staff's Sorcery Scaling, a value set by the staff, its upgrade level and the caster's Intelligence, with a few staves also drawing on Faith or Arcane. Lusat's Glintstone Staff carries the highest pure Intelligence scaling but raises sorcery FP costs by 50%.
• Sorceries fall into families, and a matching staff boosts each family even from the off hand, so a caster can hold the boosting staff in one hand and the strongest staff in the other. The Carian Glintblade Staff adds 15% to the glintblade sorceries and the Carian Regal Scepter lifts the moon sorceries by 10%.
• Talismans stack on top of the staff. The Graven-School Talisman raises sorcery damage by 4% and the Graven-Mass Talisman by 8%, and the Magic Scorpion Charm adds 12% magic damage while raising physical damage taken by 10%.
• Holding the cast button charges sorceries such as Night Comet, Loretta's Greatbow and Stars of Ruin into a stronger release at the same FP cost, and the Godfrey Icon adds 15% to charged spells. Channeled sorceries like Comet Azur and Meteorite of Astel keep draining FP for as long as the button is held.
• Casting speed rises with Dexterity up to 70. The Radagon Icon adds 30 virtual Dexterity and Azur's Glintstone Staff adds 40 while raising sorcery FP costs by 20%, a pairing that shortens slow casts such as Comet Azur.
• Most sorceries are bought from teachers. Sorceress Sellen teaches from the Waypoint Ruins in Limgrave, Thops from the Church of Irith and Miriel, Pastor of Vows from the Church of Vows in Liurnia of the Lakes, Preceptor Seluvis from Seluvis's Rise in the Three Sisters and Gowry from his shack south of Sellia in Caelid. Sellen, Seluvis and Miriel also learn new sorceries from scrolls such as the Royal House Scroll.

Builds

• Pure Intelligence: This build raises Intelligence above everything else and fights at range, moving from cheap early shots to the costly legendary sorceries as the staff grows. The Carian Regal Scepter and Lusat's Glintstone Staff serve as its late staves. Sorceries: Glintstone Pebble, Rock Sling, Stars of Ruin, Comet Azur, Rennala's Full Moon.
• Spellblade: A spellblade treats the staff as a sword, chaining conjured blades at close range while the Carian Glintstone Staff adds 15% to the sword sorceries. Scholar's Armament lends magic to a real weapon between casts. Sorceries: Carian Slicer, Carian Greatsword, Adula's Moonblade, Glintblade Phalanx, Scholar's Armament.
• Night Sorcerer: This build relies on the semi-invisible night sorceries of Sellia, led by Night Comet, which enemies do not dodge. A Staff of Loss in either hand adds 30% to Night Comet and Night Shard. Sorceries: Night Comet, Night Shard, Ambush Shard, Unseen Blade.
• Gravity: Gravity casters lean on the sorceries of the Alabaster Lords, several of which strike with physical force instead of pure magic. The Meteorite Staff boosts the whole family by 30%. Sorceries: Rock Sling, Collapsing Stars, Gravity Well, Meteorite, Meteorite of Astel.
• Frost: Frost casters stack frostbite build-up with cold sorceries, starting with Glintstone Icecrag and Freezing Mist from Preceptor Seluvis and ending with Ranni's Dark Moon. Sorceries: Glintstone Icecrag, Freezing Mist, Zamor Ice Storm, Adula's Moonblade, Ranni's Dark Moon.
• Death Sorcerer: Death sorcerers split points between Intelligence and Faith for the sorceries of the servants of Death, cast from the Prince of Death's Staff for its 10% boost. Sorceries: Ancient Death Rancor, Explosive Ghostflame, Tibia's Summons, Rancorcall.
• Magma: Magma casters run another Intelligence and Faith hybrid, throwing the magma sorceries of Mt. Gelmir with a 15% boost from the Gelmir Glintstone Staff. Sorceries: Magma Shot, Gelmir's Fury, Roiling Magma, Rykard's Rancor.
• Faith Thorns: This build casts thorn sorceries on Faith instead of Intelligence, holding the Staff of the Guilty for its 20% boost. The briars wound the caster to spill blood onto foes. Sorceries: Briars of Sin, Briars of Punishment, Impenetrable Thorns, Mantle of Thorns.

Notes

• Glintstone Pebble from Sorceress Sellen at the Waypoint Ruins and Rock Sling from the Street of Sages Ruins in Caelid carry most casters through the early game, and Carian Slicer opens up once the Royal House Scroll reaches Sellen, Seluvis or Miriel.
• Thops leaves the Church of Irith for the Academy of Raya Lucaria once given a spare Academy Glintstone Key and dies there; his corpse beside the Schoolhouse Classroom holds Thops's Bell Bearing.
• Preceptor Seluvis is later found dead in his tower as Ranni's questline advances, and Sellen and Gowry can also die along their own stories. Their bell bearings, taken from their bodies, go to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold to bring their sorceries back on sale.
• A teacher's bell bearing carries over any scroll already handed to that teacher, so sorceries unlocked by the Royal House Scroll stay available through the Twin Maiden Husks.
• Miriel, Pastor of Vows stays at the Church of Vows for good and accepts every scroll, which makes him the safest teacher to hand them to.
