The Club is the weapon of your first night: six pieces of Meadows wood knocked together in the inventory before any Workbench exists to make something better. It deals 12 blunt damage. It is the weakest club in the game, and that is the point: it is the one you can make first. Blunt damage hurts a Frost Blob more than most things, and that is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
You craft it by hand, straight from the inventory.
- 6x Wood: chopped from any tree.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | All biomes | - | spawn Wood
|
When to Use It
This is gear for the opening hours. Everything it takes comes from the Meadows, so it suits a character who has just stood up.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Figures quoted elsewhere are for quality 1, so use this table to find the level your own copy is at:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Blunt | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | By hand | 12 | 100 |
6x Wood |
| 2 | By hand | 18 | 150 | - |
| 3 | By hand | 24 | 200 | - |
| 4 | By hand | 30 | 250 | - |
Properties
It is the first weapon in the game, and briefly the worst. At quality 1, its 12 blunt is less than a Flint Axe manages. Once upgraded, it changes character entirely.
What it is really for is Skeletons. They take 50% more damage from blunt, so a fully upgraded Club clears a Burial Chamber faster than a sword with twice its listed damage.
It has no secondary attack at all. Every other one-handed club trades double stamina for 2.5x damage and 2x stagger, but this one only has the 3-hit primary.
Notes
- Each primary swing moves you forward 0.66 m, which closes the distance the knockback just opened.
- The secondary narrows to a 30 degree arc from the primary's 90, so it is a single-target finisher, not a crowd tool.
- A two-handed hammer lands its blow 2 metres in front of you and damages a 4-metre radius around that point, so positioning matters more than aim.
