The Lava Blob lives out in the Ashlands, where the ground is already doing its best to kill you, and it hops over to finish the job. It is the fire-soaked cousin of the Blob. Rather than bite, claw or spit, it swells, glows and bursts for 70 blunt and 30 fire across six metres, taking itself with it. The first one usually catches a player mid sprint, still wondering how something that slow kept up.
Behaviour
It jumps, and that is the detail that gets people killed. On flat ground it slides along at walking pace, but one hop can clear a surprising gap and land it far closer than you planned. It has no ranged attack and no swing either: the whole creature is the attack. It turns to face its target first, then swells rapidly, then detonates in a fiery shower with a six metre radius, dying in the process whether or not you were standing in it. Killing one does not save you, because the explosion also goes off on death, and the blast carries enough chop and pickaxe force to open holes in trees, terrain and anything you have built nearby. They come in ones and twos rather than swarms, they never flee, and the flames left scattered afterwards are as much of a problem as the hit itself.
Where to Find It
It spawns in the middle of the Ashlands, the deeper country inland rather than the shoreline you first land on, and it is common enough there to be a constant concern rather than an occasional event. It favours the open burnt flats and the broken rock around the lava, and time of day hardly matters in a biome lit permanently red. Stars are not a factor with this one. It can also be summoned: a blob bomb loaded with lava calls one up on impact, hostile to you and to everything around it, and that is the only way to meet one outside its own biome. Beyond surviving the crossing, nothing else gates it.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Distance beats it and melee does not. Anything that keeps six metres between you and the blast works, so a staff or a thrown bomb is the sensible plan, and the fire weapons half the party brought down there are wasted. Blunt, frost and lightning all hit half again as hard, which makes a heavy mace the one melee weapon worth drawing. Pierce is resisted enough that a bow is a slower answer than it looks. The moment it starts to swell, stop hitting it and move: roll or sprint clear of the radius instead of trying to finish it, because a corpse explodes just as happily as a live one. Never fight one beside a wall you care about, or with your Asksvin parked behind you. Carapace tier armour survives a blast comfortably, and anything lighter has no business being in the biome.
- It takes extra damage from Blunt, Frost and Lightning.
- It shrugs off Pierce and Poison.
- It ignores Fire.
Drops
Proustite Powder is the reason to hunt them. It makes the Basalt Bombs that let you cross lava to reach Flametal, and the Sulfur is always welcome.

Notes
- The Lava Blob has no head, face or eyes, but it still has a front, and it only does its standard explosion attack while facing its target. If it is not facing its target, it rotates in place until it is, and only then explodes.
