Blobs are the Swamp's slow tax. They have fifty hit points, no ranged attack and no tactics at all, but they burst into a cloud of poison the moment you come within two metres, and early armour does nothing against poison. Plenty of players lose their first Swamp trip not to a Draugr but to two of these and a poison meter that will not stop ticking.

Behaviour

A blob's whole plan is to hop slowly towards you and detonate. The gas burst reaches four metres out from its body and deals 90 poison damage. It only triggers when you are inside two metres, and it can go off again every two seconds. The cloud that lingers afterwards is only visual: the first burst is what hurts, and it hurts once. Blobs cannot be staggered, so you cannot knock one off its rhythm, and it never gives up the chase. A blob will follow you into open water, swim after your boat and climb aboard, which is how a lot of cargo runs end badly. It does not flee, summon anything or care about day or night. When an Oozer dies it splits into two of these, so the bigger mob is really a delivery system for the smaller one.

Where to Find It

The Swamp is their home. They spawn uncommonly across the open mire, in ones and twos at any hour, and far more reliably inside Sunken Crypts, where fixed spawn points put them right in the corridors you have to walk down. Two more appear every time you kill an Oozer. During its fight, Bonemass throws goop that bursts into four at a time, with up to eight alive at once. Once Bonemass is dead, the raid announced as "A foul smell from the swamp" starts arriving at your base with blobs and oozers, which is where most players meet them outside the biome. They have no starred variants, so the blob you kill on your first day is the same as the one you kill on your two hundredth.

Blobs also spawn once at fixed points in Sunken Crypts.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Reach beats everything here. The burst needs you within two metres, so an atgeir, a polearm or even a basic spear kills one before it can trigger, and so does a club swung from just outside the bubble. If you must stand close, expect to be poisoned and carry Poison Resistance Mead. It is worth more than any armour here, because poison ignores armour entirely. For damage, use blunt, frost or lightning, which each land for half again as much. Swords, arrows and fire are all halved, and a bow is a waste of ammo on a target that walks straight at you. Blocking and parrying do nothing, since the cloud is an area effect and the blob cannot be staggered, so treat the fight as a positioning puzzle, not a duel. Bronze gear and a mace clear them without trouble, and blobs never get harder: they simply stop mattering.

It takes extra damage from Blunt, Frost and Lightning.
It resists Slash, Pierce and Fire.
It is immune to Poison.

Drops

Every kill drops Ooze, and Ooze is the reason anyone farms blobs at all.

Notes

Blobs can follow you out onto the Ocean and jump into boats.
Blobs left alive inside a Sunken Crypt after you have entered it still count toward the spawn limit, so fewer Blobs spawn across a large area around it, even the ones Bonemass summons.
