A dead Troll is worth far more as hide than as a trophy, and the Troll Leather Hood is what most Vikings turn that first armful of hide into. It gives 6 armour, or 12 fully upgraded. Its materials come from the Black Forest, and you make it at a Workbench. It ranks 15th among helmets. Worn with the rest of the Troll Set, it is part of a 19 armour rating, which turns a 100-damage hit into 81.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 2 Workbench from:
- 5x Troll Hide: dropped by Trolls.
- 3x Bone Fragments: dropped by Skeletons and found in Rancid Remains.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Troll Hide | Black Forest | - | spawn TrollHide
| |
| Bone Fragments | Black Forest | - | spawn BoneFragments
|
When to Use It
This is early game gear. It needs Black Forest materials, which means it comes after Eikthyr and the Antler Pickaxe.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step further up than the last. Every other figure quoted here is for quality 1, so this table is the ladder your own copy sits somewhere on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Armor | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Workbench (Level 2) | 6 | 500 |
|
| 2 | Workbench (Level 3) | 8 | 700 |
|
| 3 | Workbench (Level 4) | 10 | 900 |
|
| 4 | Workbench (Level 5) | 12 | 1100 |

Notes
- Armor reduces physical, fire, frost and lightning damage, but it does nothing against poison or spirit damage.
- Against a hit more than twice the armor value, armor simply takes its own value off the damage. Against weaker hits it blocks a growing share of the damage instead, and every extra point of armor adds as many survivable hits as the one before, so stacking armor never stops paying off.
- The armor rating is the total of the helmet, chest, leg and cape armor worn, so going without a helmet throws away a large part of it.
