The Fiend is a Relict, a walking mountain of muscle with a horned head full of teeth. A third eye sits in the middle of its forehead. Fiends lurk in Velen, around Crookback Bog.
Lore
Kavin Jell managed the Villepin Estate near Vizima. He once had to write a hard letter to his lord. The lord's son had gone hunting a fiend and died on the spot. His squire, his guide, the beaters, the peasants who came along and even his hounds died with him.
Fiends have rarer cousins called bumbakvetches. Both kinds live in thick forests, swamps and bogs. When they can, fiends avoid humans. When they cannot, they kill them, and with little effort.
Behaviour
A fiend's wounds heal quickly. Its strongest weapon is the third eye. With it, the fiend draws its prey into a trance. The victim sees nothing but that single burning eye, and it is the last thing they see before they die. The fiend's one known fear is loud noise.
Weaknesses
Coat the blade with Relict Oil. Keep Quen up at all times, because the fiend's blows are extremely hard to dodge. Igni is very effective against it. Samum and Devil's Puffball bombs work well, because their blast plays on the fiend's fear of loud noise. Axii stuns it for a moment and opens it up for a few blows.
Watch for the hypnosis. When the fiend stands still and the ground starts to shake, it is about to use its third eye. Interrupt it with a Sign or a stun before it finishes. Drinking Enhanced Cat beforehand makes the hypnosis useless.
At range, the fiend paws the ground and charges like a bull. The charge can nearly kill in one hit, so roll clear of it. Up close, it gores with its horns from the front. Stay at its sides or behind it.

A fiend is fought in Return to Crookback Bog, a quest in Velen. The quest is the search for Anna, the Baron's wife, in the Crones' lair. At the Crones' house, the Crones send their creatures to attack. Drowners and water hags come first, and then a fiend joins the fight. Once all the monsters are dead, the story turns back to Anna and her curse.
