Family Matters is one of the biggest main quests in Velen. The Bloody Baron, Phillip Strenger, will say more about Ciri only after Geralt finds his missing wife and daughter. Both women vanished from Crow's Perch one night. The search takes Geralt across Velen and into Oxenfurt. It brings to light the baron's drinking, his abuse and a buried child that has become a botchling.

Choices
Geralt meets the baron's men outside the Pellar's hut. With the Delusion skill, Geralt can use Axii to send them away. Otherwise the meeting can end in a fight. The stablehand trapped in the burning stable can be saved or left. Saving him earns a small reward later at Crow's Perch.
The biggest choice comes at the grave. Geralt can lift the curse or kill the botchling. Lifting the curse means guarding the baron as he carries the creature home. Wraiths attack on the way, and Axii must calm the botchling after each attack. At the threshold the baron names the child, and it rises as a lubberkin. This friendly household spirit then leads Geralt along the trail of the two women. Killing the botchling is the other path. Geralt then collects its blood for an old ritual that also points to the women's trail.
Geralt can talk to the baron before he looks for Tamara. In that case the baron hands him a cloth doll for her as he leaves.
