The Wraith is one of the most common Specters, the spirit of a dead person that never left this world. Wraiths are found all over the world, as early as White Orchard.
Lore
Clerics and scholars argue without end about whether spirits travel to another world after death, to eternal joy or eternal suffering. Both groups agree on what happens to spirits that, for one reason or another, stay in this world after the body dies. They turn into wraiths. Their mournful howls suggest it is not a fate to envy.
The peasant healer Paule Vikar gave this advice to a dying man: "Finish all your business before you die. Bid your loved ones farewell. Write your will. Apologize to those you've wronged. Otherwise, you'll never truly leave this world."
Behaviour
A wraith can turn invisible and untouchable at will, then reappear a short distance away. Most often it reappears right next to its target, or behind it, and strikes at once. Wraiths are most dangerous in groups.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Specter Oil. Wraiths are immune to poison, so Devil's Puffball and other poison gases do nothing to them. They also shrug off fire. Yrden and Moon Dust bombs are the best tools against them. Both stop a wraith from turning immaterial and force it into a fair fight.
The real danger comes when a wraith vanishes. It reappears close by and strikes quickly, several times in a row. Roll or dodge away from these attacks. Quen protects against the sudden strikes and allows a bolder attack. Fighting several wraiths at once is especially risky.

Wraiths appear in many quests. On Fyke Isle, in A Towerful of Mice, wraiths of the curse's victims rise against Graham. In Scenes From a Marriage, wraiths attack inside the memories of Iris von Everec.
