Aaron Waines is a young boxer from Dogtown and a former member of the Animals. The gang's leader had a chip put in his ear to make him lose fights on command. Free of the gang, he wants a real career in the ring and asks V for help.
Biography
Aaron's father was a construction worker on the Anatomicon building in Dogtown. While Aaron was with the Animals, their ripperdoc secretly fitted him with an experimental implant at the request of the pack's leader, Angelica Whelan. It lets her knock him down at will and fix his fights for money. Now that he has left the gang, a coming fight could change his life, if the chip can be dealt with.
The Chip
Messages on a ripperdoc's laptop show how it started. Angelica Whelan asked the ripper, Damir, about Aaron, the boxer who delivered mods to him and never stopped talking about boxing. She wanted a failsafe to control the flow of his fights. Damir had a batch of experimental French implants that attach to the inner ear, which he called a remote control for the head. When Aaron came in for maintenance, Damir planted it without telling him, and Angelica paid him extra for the trouble.
The Comeback
A Dogtown boxing zine sums up his career as a ride of high highs and shady lows: a talented boxer whose promise was watered down by a series of losses under questionable circumstances. After a long break, he came home to Dogtown to win back his form and his name, fighting everyone from real prizefighters to drugged up neighbours. His big fight against a Valentino from Night City is billed as Dogtown against the city, and the zine backs him all the way: the boy, it says, was born to punch people.
