Side Characters

Side characters fill the world of Night City around the main story. They hand out side jobs, appear in gigs as targets or victims, run bars and shops, or simply have a story of their own to tell.

Stories of the City

Some of the best told stories in the game belong to side characters. The Peralez family hire V to look into the death of the mayor, and their story ends with an unsettling truth about who is watching them. Joshua Stephenson, a killer on death row, wants to die on the cross in a braindance. Claire Russell, the bartender of the Afterlife, races through the streets of the city to settle a score. Delamain, the AI that runs a taxi company, sends V after its runaway cabs.

Kerry Eurodyne, the old guitarist of Samurai, wants to get back on stage. River Ward, a detective of the NCPD, hunts a serial killer who has taken his nephew. Mama Welles mourns her son Jackie at El Coyote Cojo. Brendan, a talking vending machine in Japantown, makes friends with passers by.

Gigs and Encounters

Many side characters only appear in a single gig or a short side job. They may be a target to kill, a hostage to rescue, a witness to question or a driver who needs help. Even then, their messages and shards often tell a small story of life in the city.
