Bloody Ritual is a cyberpsycho sighting for Regina Jones in Northside, Watson, only open between 8 PM and 5 AM. Bodies and entrails are strewn around a ritual circle. A splinter of Maelstrom has turned to the occult, and their netrunner, Zaria Hughes, believed a blood sacrifice would open the gates of the abyss. She rises from an old freezer with Mantis Blades.
Story
Not Made for Maelstrom
The journal explains that not everyone is made for Maelstrom. Some, unsurprisingly, do not take well to having half their face cut off. They start hearing voices and seeing things. Then all it takes is a gun, and the recipe for disaster is ready to serve.
The Ritual
The scene is a nightmare. Fluorescent lamps, their colour and brightness changed by hand, stand around the edge of a circle on the ground. A pool of half congealed blood belongs to someone who was not Maelstrom. A worker in uniform, from no gang at all, was cut to pieces. Surgical tools and body parts lie scattered. An old freezer full of ice sits nearby, likely used for netrunning. Maelstrom members lie bleeding from the eyes and from many stab wounds, with no sign they fought back.
The Abyss Is Hungry
A dying Maelstrom speaks in riddles before he dies. His cracked shard reads like a prayer: the circle is drawn, the lamb awaits the slaughter, their silicon craves blood, and the abyss is hungry. On Zaria, V finds her own words. Her boys found her a lamb. Blood would flow through the fibre optics and blend with the digital, opening the gates of the abyss. A hard reset, a blue screen, a reformatted brain. She was ready.
