Watson is the northern district of Night City and the place V's story begins. It was meant to be the beating heart of the city. Japanese zaibatsus once poured billions of eurodollars into its skyscrapers, nightclubs and the Med Center, and into the industry of the north, to make the district rich and self sufficient. It had everything: nightclubs, towers, corporate offices and the best medical care in the city. Then Arasaka returned to Night City after the Unification War and crushed its rivals one by one. Without a stable financial sector, Watson caved in on itself. The jobs in the Northside Industrial District vanished, workers ended up on the street, and Arasaka bought up the suddenly cheap land, because what it really wanted was access to the port. Today Watson is one of the poorest districts in the city, known as its bad neighbourhood and lived in mostly by Northside workers earning next to nothing. Maelstrom holds the closed factories of the industrial north, and the Tyger Claws run Kabuki and come to Little China to spend their money. The Afterlife, Viktor Vektor's clinic and V's apartment in Megabuilding H10 all sit here, so the opening of the story never leaves Watson. The district is split into Little China, Kabuki, Northside and the walled Arasaka Waterfront.

Gangs

Maelstrom, the Tyger Claws and the Scavengers all operate in Watson. The Mox hold their own corner of Kabuki as well.

Maelstrom controls Northside and the industrial district around it. Its members are easy to spot by their frightening faceplates and glowing optics, which show both their gang and their obsession with cyberware. The gang tests the limits of the human body, and not only on itself: it also experiments on anyone unlucky enough to cross its path. It is known for brutal public executions, illegal braindances and a wild way of fighting. Many think its members are on the edge of cyberpsychosis, but in the end everything Maelstrom does is about business.

The Tyger Claws run nightclubs, casinos and braindance bars in Little China and Kabuki. They are organised and efficient, and they can be shocking to their enemies.

The Scavengers make Watson a prime hunting ground. They do not wait for a body to reach the graveyard, or even for it to die. They take people off the street and strip out their implants and organs to sell.

The Mox are the youngest gang in Night City. They formed from the protests that followed the murder of a sex worker, and they now protect the sex workers, punks and outcasts of Kabuki. Lizzie's Bar is their home and their main source of money.
