Joshua Stephenson is a convicted killer who found faith in prison. He was jailed for armed robbery and first-degree murder, and his conversion to Christianity brought him a brief moment of fame. After a run of late-night show appearances and televised debates, some still doubt that his conversion is real. To seek forgiveness, he agrees to star in a braindance that ends with his own crucifixion.
Biography
The Crime
Joshua was convicted of armed robbery and murder. Among his victims were Caroline, the wife of Bill Jablonsky, and Ruben El-Ahmar, the brother of Zuleikha El-Ahmar. He has said he was holding a gun, did not like the way they looked at him and had the power to stop them.
Faith
In prison Joshua found God. He says it did not happen all at once: he had a lot of time to think about what he had done, and in the end he understood that what he wanted most was forgiveness. Letters from Zuleikha El-Ahmar set him on the path to redemption. His story made him famous, and Rachel Casich of Fourth Wall Studios offered him a deal: release under police guard to visit his victims' families, in return for recording his final days in a braindance called The Passion.
The Road
When Bill Jablonsky learns of the visits, he sets out to take revenge for his wife and hires help through Wakako Okada. After a car chase, Joshua's police escort shoots Jablonsky, and Joshua invites V to come along on his journey. On the road he and V talk about faith, guilt and death.
