They Won't Go When I Go is the last side job of Joshua Stephenson's story, in which Joshua is crucified on camera for a braindance called The Passion. Rachel Casich calls V to Fourth Wall Studios in Japantown after There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, because Joshua wants V there. V can comfort him, pray with him and even drive in the nails, and how V has treated him decides whether the recording works.

Story

Rachel's Call

Johnny's journal entry is rude about Rachel, the studio executive, who wants V to come and give her star a pep talk. Normally Johnny would tell V to drop it and find something more fun, but he admits that this man could really use V's help.

Some time after the meal at PieZ, Rachel calls. Joshua has asked for V to be there while he prepares for the crucifixion. If V says there is no time, Joshua pleads over the phone, and Rachel offers extra money. V can still refuse and leave them to it.

Fourth Wall Studios

Outside Fourth Wall Studios, protesters gather against the filming of "The Passion of Joshua". Officer Vasquez greets V and sends V to a building down the street, guarded by the NCPD. Inside, Rachel sends V to Joshua.

Joshua is having second thoughts and asks for V's opinion. Then he asks V to pray with him. V can join him as he recites Saint Augustine's Prayer to the Holy Spirit, say a prayer of V's own, or refuse, leaving him to pray in silence.

The Crucifixion

Rachel comes backstage: it is time. Joshua asks V to be the one who crucifies him. If V agrees, V takes the hammer and nails Joshua's wrists and feet to the cross, reading the lines from a teleprompter. V can stop partway, and an actor takes over. If V refuses, another actor plays the part from the start, and V can watch or leave. Once the cross is raised, V waits by it until Joshua dies.

The Release

Two days later, Rachel calls to say the braindance is out. If V encouraged and supported Joshua, it is a hit, and she pays a bonus. If V mocked him or filled him with doubt, the recording is poor, and she is angry but still pays a small sum.

Choices

Joshua's Braindance

V's words to Joshua here and in the two earlier jobs decide whether the braindance succeeds. Praying with him, supporting his choice and calling him a rebel help. Cynical or mocking answers make it fail.

The Nails

V can drive the nails, stop and hand over to an actor, or refuse from the start. Leaving the studio without helping fails the job and loses the reward.
