Sinnerman is the side job in which the fixer Wakako Okada sends V to help a grieving husband take revenge on the man who killed his wife. It starts with a call from Wakako after Life During Wartime, outside the Dewdrop Inn in Arroyo, Santo Domingo. The target is Joshua Stephenson, a convicted killer released for a strange corporate project, and the job can end in a killing or in an unusual new contract.

Story

A Bad Smell

Johnny thinks the job stinks. In the journal he agrees that V is above plain hit jobs. There is no harm in hearing what the client has to say, but his advice is to take a hard pass.

Wakako's client is Bill Jablonsky, a demanding man who wants revenge for the murder of his wife, Caroline. He wants everything done exactly as planned, will pay well for it, and wants to be there when the killer dies.

Bill Jablonsky

V waits on a bench outside the Dewdrop Inn on the corner of Sixth and Brandon Street until Bill arrives. He names the target: Joshua Stephenson, a notorious killer. Despite his sentence, Joshua has been let out of prison through the influence of a corporation, and he is being driven out of Night City Prison. Bill puts V in the driver's seat of his truck, and when the NCPD car carrying Joshua passes, they follow it.

The Underpass

The NCPD car is stopped in an underpass by a lorry parked across the road. Bill, overcome with rage and wanting to kill Joshua himself, pulls a pistol and rushes the car. Lieutenant Vasquez of the NCPD shoots him dead.

Joshua tells Vasquez to keep V alive, threatening to call off the deal with the corporation if V is shot. Vasquez stands down and reports the incident. Joshua introduces himself and asks V to come along. Vasquez has heard of V and warns that V is too dangerous to take along. Joshua insists, and offers V a job.

Choices

Joshua's Fate

V can kill Joshua at the underpass, through the car window or after he gets out. Calling Wakako afterwards earns a payment that scales with V's level, and the storyline ends.

Accepting Joshua's offer and getting into the NCPD car leads straight into There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. V can also turn him down and stay behind, which ends the job.

Losing the Car

If V loses track of the NCPD car, Bill angrily ends the job and later texts that V will not be paid.

Rewards

Completing Sinnerman pays €$ 0 to 9,300 (dependent).

Killing Joshua earns payment from Wakako, and his prison jumpsuit can be looted. Bill drops an M-10AF Lexington pistol.

Tips

Joshua's braindance is shaped by how V treats him from here on. Encouraging and taking his beliefs seriously leads to a successful recording at the end of They Won't Go When I Go, while cynical or mocking answers lead to failure.
