Courtly Breeches is leg armor in Dragon's Dogma 2. Upgraded through Battahli and then Wyrmfire smithing, it reaches 29 Defense.
Formal raiment worn by palace attendants and visitors. None save the most ill-mannered boor would dare enter Vernworth Castle without it.
How to get Courtly Breeches and Map Location
Courtly Breeches is sold for 150,000 G.
- Merchant: Philbert's Sundries in Vernworth
- Quest: Reward from The Ornate Box
- Location: Upstairs in the western bedroom of the Comptroller's Home, in Vermund.
- Chest: In a chest in Sven's Chambers in Vernworth Castle.
- Chest: In a chest on the second floor of Allard's Estate, in Vermund.
- Location: In a second floor bedroom, in Vermund.

Courtly Breeches Quest Guide
The Ornate Box is a side quest given by Sven and Auriol in Vernworth. It becomes available during the main quest Seat of the Sovran, in the Merchant Quarter.
- Go to the merchant stalls in the Merchant Quarter, where Sven wants the Ornate Box from Auriol's shop but lacks the gold.
- Buy the Ornate Box from Auriol. It costs 1,000 G, or 800 G once Medicament Predicament is complete.
- Find Sven in the Merchant Quarter and give him the box.
- Wait a few days, then meet Sven at the fountain in the centre of Vernworth. He gives you a Jasper. Your Pawns remind you each time he is ready to meet again.
- Meet him at the fountain on the next day for a Ring of Accrual.
- Keep returning to the fountain on the following days. Sven hands over a Ferrystone, the Courtly Tunic, the Courtly Breeches and his gold, completing the quest.
Rewards: 900 XP, 4,000 G, Jasper, Ring of Accrual, Ferrystone, Courtly Tunic, Courtly Breeches
Outcomes:
- Ornate Box bought for Sven: the full reward.
- Gold lent to Sven: he repays you in gold in place of the Jasper and Ring of Accrual.
Smithing Upgrade Guide
Every piece of armour can be enhanced three times at an armoury or smithy, each time for gold and the materials listed below, and a fourth time with Wyrmfire. Any armoury or smithy works on weapons and armour alike. Each smith works in one style, and you can mix styles from one level to the next.
- Vermundian raises every attribute moderately. Armouries and smithies in Vermund offer it, such as Roderick's Smithy and Bjorn's Armory in Vernworth.
- Elven raises Magick and Magick Defense greatly, Strength and Defense only a little. Grisha's Armory in Sacred Arbor offers it.
- Battahli raises Strength and Defense greatly, Magick and Magick Defense only a little. Armouries in Battahl offer it, such as Awaran's Arms and Bodas's Armory in Bakbattahl.
- Dwarven raises Knockdown Power and Knockdown Resistance. Sara at Brokkr's Smithy offers it after Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge, and Gautstafr after Put a Spring in Thy Step.
- Wyrmfire halves the weight and gives a further boost once the first three enhancements are done. The Dragonforged at Bay Wayside Shrine takes payment in Wyrmslife Crystals instead of gold.

Taking Courtly Breeches to level 3 costs 63,000 G in all, whichever style you choose. Battahli smithing gives it the most Defense at level 3 (19), while Dwarven gives the most Knockdown Resistance (11). Wyrmfire then costs 5 Wyrmslife Crystals.
