Sven, the beloved son of Queen Disa, is a set to become the next consul ruler, much to his mother's satisfaction. Despite his mother's wishes and plots, Sven remains grounded in doing the moral good. Despite his royal elegance, Sven's genuine sincerity often steers him towards naivety, adding a sense of innocence to his character.
The beloved son of Queen Regent Disa and a candidate to become the next consul ruler. He is not party to his mother's conspiracies, and is concerned with doing what is right. He has a princely elegance, but his boyish sincerity sometimes turns to naïveté.
Story
Sven is the son of Queen Regent Disa and a candidate to rule as the next consul, yet he keeps well clear of his mother's schemes. The Arisen first sees him in Vernworth during Seat of the Sovran, running from a guard just after the first meeting with Brant. When the guard asks after him, the Arisen can lie to cover for him.
Sven is later found arguing with the shopkeeper Auriol over an ornate box he wants but cannot pay for, which begins The Ornate Box. Once he has the box, he repays the Arisen over the following days at the Dragon Fountain. The trinket itself is worth little. For a young man who has long wanted to see life beyond the palace and act on his own will, it is his first step towards independence from his mother and her plans for him.
By An Unsettling Encounter, Sven has become an ally of the Arisen and Brant. He reports a suspicious, carefully hidden delivery to Minister Allard, one of Disa's key political allies, and calls Allard to his chambers at night so the Arisen can search the minister's rooms.
During Every Rose Has Its Thorn, the Arisen visits Sven in his chambers while gathering evidence against Allard. He points to Ser Patrick as someone who can help, and naming Sven as an employer gets the Arisen past the guards at Patrick's estate. He may also hand over the task that starts A Veil of Gossamer Clouds.
Location
By day Sven wanders the Merchant Quarter of Vernworth, near the stalls below the fountain. His private rooms are Sven's Chambers in Vernworth Castle, just past the Castle Offices. Once the main story has moved on far enough, he no longer roams the city.
Gifts
Sven favours Fancy and Expensive items. Costly merchant goods such as rings and curatives count as fancy, and anything sold at a high price in shops counts as expensive.
Notes
- Buying the box for him leads to a series of repayments that ends with the Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches.
- The courtly attire serves as formal dress for the masquerade in The Stolen Throne and earns an invitation from Myrddin in The Sorcerer's Appraisal.
- If the courtly attire was missed, it can be picked up in Sven's Chambers or the Guest Chambers of Vernworth Castle.
- His personality type is Kindhearted.
- Quince can be stolen from him.
Trivia
At the first repayment by the fountain, Sven cuts the conversation short so that his mother does not find him there.
