Courtly Tunic is body armour that every vocation can wear. It is formal wear for Vernworth Castle, and the story asks for it twice. The masquerade in The Stolen Throne needs it, and Myrddin opens The Sorcerer's Appraisal only to visitors wearing it with the Courtly Breeches.

Sven hands it over near the end of The Ornate Box, a side quest in Vernworth. Another lies in a chest in the guest chambers on the second floor of Vernworth Castle.

How to Get Courtly Tunic

  • Buy the Ornate Box from Auriol in the Merchant Quarter of Vernworth and give it to Sven.
  • Meet Sven at the fountain over the following days.
  • Collect the tunic at one of the later meetings.

Courtly Tunic is sold for 155,000 G.

  • Merchant: Philbert's Sundries in Vernworth
  • It can be found in a chest at Allard's Estate in Vernworth.
  • It can be found in another chest at the master bedroom at Comptroller's Home in Vernworth.
  • A chest in a small room in the corner of Sven's Chambers.

Courtly Tunic Map Location and Quest Guide

The Ornate Box is a side quest given by Sven and Auriol in Vernworth. It becomes available during the main quest Seat of the Sovran, in the Merchant Quarter. Sven hands over the Courtly Tunic at one of the later meetings at the fountain.

  1. Go to the merchant stalls in the Merchant Quarter, where Sven wants the Ornate Box from Auriol's shop but lacks the gold.
  2. Buy the Ornate Box from Auriol. The price drops once Medicament Predicament is complete.
  3. Find Sven in the Merchant Quarter and give him the box.
  4. Wait a few days, then meet Sven at the fountain in the centre of Vernworth. He hands over a Jasper. The pawns give a reminder each time he is ready to meet again.
  5. Meet him at the fountain the next day for a Ring of Accrual.
  6. Keep returning to the fountain on the following days. Sven hands over a Ferrystone, the Courtly Tunic, the Courtly Breeches and his gold, completing the quest.

Rewards: 900 XP, 4,000 G, Jasper, Ring of Accrual, Ferrystone, Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches.

Outcomes:

  • Buy the Ornate Box for Sven: the full reward.
  • Lend Sven the gold instead: he repays it in gold in place of the Jasper and Ring of Accrual.

Smithing Upgrade Guide

Every piece of armour can be enhanced three times at an armoury or smithy, each time for gold and the materials listed below, and a fourth time with Wyrmfire. Any armoury or smithy works on weapons and armour alike. Each smith works in one style, and you can mix styles from one level to the next.

  • Vermundian raises every attribute moderately. Armouries and smithies in Vermund offer it, such as Roderick's Smithy and Bjorn's Armory in Vernworth.
  • Elven raises Magick and Magick Defense greatly, Strength and Defense only a little. Grisha's Armory in Sacred Arbor offers it.
  • Battahli raises Strength and Defense greatly, Magick and Magick Defense only a little. Armouries in Battahl offer it, such as Awaran's Arms and Bodas's Armory in Bakbattahl.
  • Dwarven raises Knockdown Power and Knockdown Resistance. Sara at Brokkr's Smithy offers it after Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge, and Gautstafr after Put a Spring in Thy Step.
  • Wyrmfire halves the weight and gives a further boost once the first three enhancements are done. The Dragonforged at Bay Wayside Shrine takes payment in Wyrmslife Crystals instead of gold.

The tables below give the cost, materials and result of every level for each style.

Taking Courtly Tunic to level 3 costs 65,100 G in all, whichever style you choose. Battahli smithing gives it the most Defense at level 3 (22), while Dwarven gives the most Knockdown Resistance (18). Wyrmfire then costs 10 Wyrmslife Crystals.
