The Ainsel River is a vast underground land deep beneath Liurnia of the Lakes. It is one of two great rivers that flow beneath the Lands Between. Ruins of an ancient dynasty fill its caverns. The Eternal City of Nokstella lies in its northern part, and the Lake of Rot spreads beyond. Ranni's quest leads through it on the way to the Moonlight Altar.

Lore
The Ainsel is said to be the grave of civilizations that flourished before the Erdtree. The Uhl Palace Ruins, with their tombs and statues, fill its eastern side. Claymen, priests of the ancient dynasty, still haunt them. Nokstella was one of the Eternal Cities of the Nox, banished underground by the Greater Will. Deeper still, the essence of an outer god of rot was sealed in the Lake of Rot.
Geography
The Ainsel River Well in eastern Liurnia leads down to the southern part of the river. Giant ants crowd its first caves. A lift there leads on to the southern Uhl Palace Ruins. The northern part, the Ainsel River Main, is reached through the waygate in Renna's Rise once Ranni holds the Fingerslayer Blade. A coffin in the Deeproot Depths leads there too.
The Ainsel River Main holds the northern Uhl Palace Ruins and Nokstella, Eternal City on its western side. A lift south-west of the Nokstella Waterfall Basin leads down to the Lake of Rot. The Grand Cloister lies at the far end of the lake. Beyond Astel's arena, the lift of the Deep Ainsel Well rises to the Moonlight Altar.
Bosses
A Dragonkin Soldier waits in the southern river. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void is fought beneath the Grand Cloister, and a Baleful Shadow lies in wait near Nokstella.
