The Ash of War: Shield Bash is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Standard affinity and the Shield Bash skill. It is picked up mid-game, in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Shield Bash braces behind the shield, then rams forward with full body weight while keeping the guard raised. Weaker enemies are shoved back and can be staggered, and the guard holds through the whole motion, so the bash can be thrown out into incoming attacks. On greatshields the shield is planted first for a slightly slower but equally guarded bash. It suits shield-focused builds that want a safe way to trade blows.
Stats
It grants the Standard affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Keen, Heavy, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood or Occult. The skill costs 10 FP. It fits Small Shield, Medium Shield, Greatshield and Thrusting Shield.
How to Get Ash of War: Shield Bash Guide
- Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab on a patch of land beneath the tall stone bridge north of the Academy of Raya Lucaria in Liurnia of the Lakes, just northeast of the East Gate Bridge Trestle Site of Grace.
- Once obtained, it can be duplicated by trading Lost Ashes of War to Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold.

Skill
Because the guard never drops, Shield Bash is best used to absorb an enemy attack and push back in the same motion. It cannot be guard broken during the bash, although heavy hits still drain stamina. Without enough FP the bash deals about half damage and much less stance damage, so the FP cost should be kept in reserve.
