Lamenter is a dungeon boss in Elden Ring. It is one of the expansion's additions, found in the Land of Shadow.
The Lamenter is a small, swollen-headed figure who haunts the depths of Lamenter's Gaol. It fights with quick punches and splits into a crowd of clones. Each clone left alive at the end of a clone phase adds a mark that can end in instant death. Killing clones quickly matters more than hunting the real Lamenter.

The Lamenter is a small, pale figure with a huge stone face twisted into an expression of rapturous grief.
A lamenter's form matches the state of a denizen of paradise. The people of the tower denied this state and hid it from the world. In their foolishness, they viewed true bliss with deep fear.

Phases
- Phase 1: the Lamenter fights alone with quick punches.
- Clone phases: it vanishes and summons up to seven clones, and each clone left alive at the end adds a mark. Seven marks kill instantly.
Attacks
- Quick punches: fast counters to the player's attacks. Staying aggressive but careful works best.
- Clone summon: it vanishes and splits into up to seven copies. Killing them one by one finds the real one.
- Shadow projectiles: distant clones launch slow-moving shadow bolts. Sidestepping avoids them.
- Death marks: each surviving clone at the end of a phase adds a mark around the player that never fades.
Tactics
- Attack immediately on entering the arena to seize the advantage.
- During clone phases, kill as many clones as possible to avoid stacking death marks.
- Use wide area attacks to clear clones quickly.
- Keep an eye on the ring around the character to count the marks.
- Use lightning or slash damage for extra damage.
