What's Inside
A Shroud Root is a large, glowing red growth that pours out the Shroud. Some stand alone in the open world, and others grow at the bottom of Elixir Wells. Many are guarded by Fell, and some by bosses. The Fell Sicklescythe guards the root at Ridgeback Mine, and the boss Fell Thunderbrutes guard the roots at the Ring of Rot and in Huckster Square in Pikemead's Reach. Every root sits deep in the Shroud, so the timer runs the whole time.

How to Unlock
Reading an Ancient Obelisk marks the Shroud Roots of the area on the map as purple diamonds. Each region has its own obelisks, and the Ancient Spires point to them. Reaching a root still needs a high enough Flame level, because the Shroud around it can be too deep. Strengthening the Flame raises the Shroud Passage level and opens those areas.

Rewards
Destroying a Shroud Root gives one Skill Point, paid only once per root. Skill Points unlock new skills in the skill tree, so every root makes the character stronger. In multiplayer, a player must be online and nearby to get the point. Roots stand in every region, including Cinder's Cradle, so clearing them steadily adds up to many points. Reading the Ancient Obelisks first shows where the remaining roots are.
Tips
Chopping the root with an axe is the quickest way to destroy it. A second weapon is worth carrying for the guards. Clearing the guards first makes the chopping safe. The Return Beacon at each Elixir Well refills the Shroud timer before the final push. Fire works well against the Fell around the roots, and a Shroud Survival Flask adds extra time.
