The Giant Centipede is a huge, insect-like Insectoid. It is found in many parts of the world, but it is most common in Toussaint, or more exactly under it. Since it lives in Toussaint, it belongs to the late part of the game.
Lore
The bestiary entry opens with a warning from "A Visit to Toussaint," one of the many travel guides written by Peterin Safles. Among the wonders of the duchy, the guide notes, are some creatures of a decidedly unpleasant sort. Giant Centipedes are hideous to look at and can do colossal damage to flesh. The author firmly advises staying away from them.
Hard, shell-like armor covers almost the whole body of a Giant Centipede. Rows of hooked legs stick out from under it.
Behaviour
In Toussaint, Giant Centipedes often live alongside Shaelmaars. The two have formed a strange, monstrous partnership. The centipedes feed on the small creatures that eat Shaelmaar dung.
A Giant Centipede can burrow into the ground at shocking speed and come up somewhere else. Once it picks a target, it circles it with grim focus until it can get close enough to strike. It bites with powerful jaws, and glands in its body let it spit acid.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Insectoid Oil. The thick armor is the greatest problem. It turns aside most blows from weapons, and even simple spells and witcher Signs. A Giant Centipede also parries sword strikes and answers with a strong counter.
Yrden solves all of this. Lure the centipede into the trap, where it is paralyzed and can neither shield itself with its armor nor burrow away. Aim for the front of its body, since the armor on its back is nearly impossible to break.
