The Water Hag is a Necrophage that lurks in swamps and shallow water across the North.

Lore

Shemhel of Dregsdon opens the bestiary entry with a piece of folk wisdom. People say Water Hags are the wives of Drowners. If that is true, Shemhel adds, it is no wonder they are so bad-tempered.

A Water Hag stands nearly two yards tall. Its body is wrinkled and covered in warts, and it stinks of mud and fish. Bony spikes two spans long stick out of its back. Its hair looks like a tangle of seaweed, and its claws would make a Werewolf proud.

Behaviour

Water Hags and their kin, the Swamp Bints, build rickety shacks in the wetlands. Some tales say they pose as lost old women to lure travelers back to these shacks. In truth, only a blind man, or one blind drunk, could mistake such a den for a cozy cottage. It is a heap of rank sludge and rotting carrion. The hag herself looks nothing like a kindly grandmother either.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Necrophage Oil. Igni works well against it, and so do Northern Wind bombs. Quen takes the sting out of its tricks.

A Water Hag throws balls of mud with frightening accuracy. A hit blurs the view and leaves its target half blind for a moment. Watch for the throw and dodge it in time. The hag can also sink out of sight and come up right beside its target for a surprise attack. Stay alert whenever it vanishes.
