The Sylvan is a Relict that looks like a cross between a goat and a plump man. One turns up in Velen in a quest with a suggested level of 7, so a Sylvan can be met early in the game.
Lore
The Scoia'tael commander Yaevinn opens the bestiary entry with a backhanded compliment. Sylvans, Yaevinn says, are cruel, greedy and treacherous. Even so, Yaevinn prefers them to humans.
Sylvans are extremely rare woodland creatures. The Yaksha is a close relative. Both mostly keep their contact with people to harmless, if annoying, tricks. They also steal crops from the fields.
Behaviour
Sylvans keep to the woods close to farms, where fields of crops lie within easy reach. Not every Sylvan is a harmless prankster, though. Fugas was the size of an overgrown troll, with nothing of the cunning trickster about it.
Weaknesses
If a fight does break out, coat the blade with Relict Oil. Igni works well against a Sylvan, and so do Samum and Devil's Puffball bombs.
Contracts and Quests
| Quest | Quest Giver | Location | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| A Greedy God | Dagmar | South of Wastrel Manor, Velen | 50 crowns |
| Bald Mountain | - | Bald Mountain, Velen | - |
A Sylvan is the hidden "god" of A Greedy God, a side quest in Velen. Two peasants at the ruins south of Wastrel Manor worship a deity called the Allgod. The Allgod has rejected their offerings as too poor. A crack in the wall and a bottle nearby lead to a rubble pile that is only an illusion. The Eye of Nehaleni reveals a hidden cellar behind it, and the Allgod waits below. The Sylvan can be killed, talked into accepting smaller offerings, or left alone. Killing it upsets the peasants, even after hearing it was just a common monster.
Fugas guards the way to the peak of Bald Mountain for the Crones. It is fought during the main quest Bald Mountain.
