Elden Ring - Classes

Classes are the starting origins chosen at character creation. Each one sets the starting level, attributes and gear, while any build can be reached later by leveling.

What a Class Decides

A class sets the starting level and every attribute. It also sets the starting weapons, shields, spells and armor. At the same level every class has the same total of attribute points. A class with low points in unused attributes wastes fewer levels for a focused build.

Melee Classes

The Vagabond has the highest Vigor and heavy knight's armor. The Hero has the highest Strength and a Battle Axe. The Warrior fights with a pair of Scimitars and high Dexterity. The Samurai starts with an Uchigatana and a Longbow.

Casting Classes

The Astrologer has the highest Intelligence and Mind and starts with Glintstone Pebble and Glintstone Arc. The Prophet has the highest Faith and starts with Heal and Catch Flame. The Prisoner mixes an Estoc with glintstone sorcery. The Confessor mixes a Broadsword with incantations.

Unusual Starts

The Bandit starts at a low level with the highest Arcane and a bow. The Wretch starts at the lowest level with equal attributes and only a Club. The Wretch is the hardest start but bends to any build later.

Choosing a Class

Well-rounded classes such as the Vagabond and the Samurai are common first picks. The Astrologer suits players who want sorcery from the very start. The Hero is the most efficient start for builds that only raise Strength. The Samurai is the most efficient start for a pure Dexterity build.
