Backs Against the Wall is a Search and Recover gig from Regina Jones in Kabuki, Watson. Thieves have been raiding ripperdoc clinics for medicine, and one ripper wants a stolen pack of meds back. A GPS tracer hidden inside leads to a ruined housing block on Columbus Street, where the thief turns out to be a war veteran, Corporal William Hare, armed and desperate.

Story

How Affordable Is Health

Regina remembers in the journal a feature she once ran, "How Affordable is Health?" The answer was not very: by her numbers, only a tiny share of the city's people could afford healthcare. Much has changed since, for the worse. Some people have declared open war on ripperdocs, breaking into clinics and stealing meds and chems. That is no surprise, and neither is the fact that the rippers want to protect what is theirs. One of them wants a stolen pack of meds back, and the tracer inside shows exactly where to look.

The Veteran

The building's upper floor is only reachable through a collapsed ceiling at the back. Behind the only door on the left, Corporal William Hare waits with a gun. He is ready to fight for the medicine.

Choices

Hare

Pass the Body check, or use these lines, to make him stand down: "Fixer sent me.", "If it doesn't work, give it to me.", "His death would change nothing." and "Other politicians will make use of his death." Any other answer turns him hostile. There is no visible timer, but taking too long to answer also makes him attack.

If he stands down, he lets V take the medicine and sits down. As soon as V leaves the room, he takes his own life.
