Max Jones is a journalist who specialises in exposing corporate scandals. He once worked with Regina Jones, who remembers him fondly. His latest story has made powerful enemies, and Regina sends V to get him out of harm's way before someone else gets to him first.
Biography
The Journalist
Max made his name uncovering the crimes of the corporations. One of his stories involved a war veteran who knew about war crimes committed by Kendachi in South America. Kendachi listened in on their conversations and hired the Tyger Claws to kill the veteran. Regina also remembers a successful series Max made about Biotechnica's exploitation of farmers.
In Blood We Serve
Max receives an anonymous tip about a programme that claims to help war veterans. The truth is that it is a publicity stunt: the soldiers receive high-quality cyberware only on loan, must return it after six months and are charged for using it. Max digs in, and his life is soon in danger.
The Fortress
Max ignores Regina's messages and expects a hitman at his door, so he turns his studio into a fortress full of mines and turrets. When V arrives, he plays recordings of veterans telling how they were cheated, hoping to win the visitor over. Whatever V says, he refuses to stop working, because he takes his duty as a journalist seriously. Only his curiosity about what Regina wants can persuade him to go with V.
Personality
Max is brave, stubborn and devoted to the truth. He is suspicious of everyone and well prepared for danger. He resents being protected and calls Regina a sellout for leaving journalism.
Relationships
Regina Jones was his mentor in journalism. Kendachi and the people behind the veterans' programme want him silenced.
Jobs
Max is the subject of Freedom of the Press, one of Regina Jones's gigs in Watson.

Endings
If V brings him in alive, Max can be found in one of the rooms of Regina's den, unhappy with his situation and scornful of his old friend.
