Biotechnica is the largest biotech corporation in the world. It works in genetic engineering, medicine and microbiology. In its labs, scientists made the discovery that pulled the world back from a fuel crisis: CHOOH2, a fuel made from engineered wheat. That patent made Biotechnica a major power, and it still holds the only rights to the product and full control of the fuel market. Food is its other great business, and companies such as All Foods belong to it.
History
CHOOH2
Biotechnica began as a small company with a single office in Rome. During an energy crisis it invented CHOOH2, a grain alcohol made from engineered yeast and wheat. Within a few years many vehicles and power plants switched to the new fuel. The company was too small to meet the demand, so it licensed production to large firms such as Petrochem and SovOil. Those deals made Biotechnica very rich and turned it into a megacorporation.
Growth
Biotechnica made deals with Arasaka and grew across the world, with facilities in many great cities, Night City among them. It works to restore the plants and animals lost to climate change, and it once built Lake Park in Night City. During the war between Arasaka and Militech, it stayed as neutral as it could and came through with few problems.

Way of Life
Biotechnica sells crops that can be farmed even in today's harsh climate, the best known of them a corn that grows anywhere. Farmers must pay yearly fees to grow them. Over time, the fees ruined many small farms, which were forced to sell their land to Biotechnica itself.
Angry farmers formed the Crimson Harvest to stand up to the company. When their peaceful protests failed, they turned violent and are now branded terrorists. The company's huge farms of greenhouses, Biotechnica Flats, stand in the southern Badlands outside Night City and supply much of the city's protein.
The company's scientists are known for having few scruples. One of them, Joanne Koch, used members of the Red Ocher nomad family as test subjects in a project that killed many of them.
Business
Biotechnica lives on the licences for CHOOH2 and on a wide range of medical and biological products. Petrochem turns the wheat grown on Biotechnica's farmland into fuel. The company also makes and sells food through its brands.
