The Tyger Claws are one of the largest gangs in Night City, ruling Japantown and parts of Watson. They reflect the strong Chinese and Japanese influence on the city. Their foot soldiers are known for glowing Asian tattoos, fast street bikes, katanas and tantos. They squeeze money from the city's nightlife, from the red light district to fully legal businesses.
History
Arasaka's Bikers
The Claws began as a motorcycle club backed by Arasaka. It grew into a small combat gang that held the old Japantown and, paid by Arasaka, sometimes protected the local Japanese community. Its members relied on reflex boosters and martial arts.
The Guardian Gang
After the nuclear blast and Arasaka's expulsion from America, the gang was left on its own. A group of Japanese corporations then took it in and moved it north to the new Watson development. There it was rebuilt as a guardian gang, meant to protect the Japanese communities of the city, with a public arm that worked almost like a legal security company. Some of Arasaka's spies who stayed behind joined the gang and worked for it while waiting for orders from their old masters.
When the gang's founding patron died, a bloody civil war broke out over his inheritance. Hayato Nakagawa won and took the name Shinobu the Second. Publicly the Claws stayed devoted to protecting the Japanese community. Beneath the surface they grabbed for as much power as they could.
The Mox
Years before the game, Tyger Claw gangers raped and murdered a sex worker. Lizzie Borden avenged her by killing three of them and was killed the same night. Her death set off riots across Night City, with the Claws and their businesses as the main targets, and gave birth to the Mox. The two gangs later reached a deal, but bad blood remains.

Way of Life
The Tyger Claws work much like the Yakuza. Crossing even the lowest member can bring the whole gang down on the offender, but those who pay what is asked are left alone. The gang is organised, efficient and clever, but also unpredictable. Its business decisions are purely rational, yet its treatment of enemies and disloyal members can be shocking.
The bosses prefer business to war, but many foot soldiers are sadistic brutes. Young and drunk Tygers often push their luck on their turf, harassing outsiders and starting fights. Their bosses see this as dishonourable, but anyone who hits back is rarely left unpunished.
Because the gang is so large, rival factions inside it often fight over money, territory and power. When an outsider threatens the Claws, they close ranks and face the danger together, and only then return to their own quarrels.
Business
The Claws own more businesses in Night City than any other gang: bars, restaurants, braindance clubs, brothels and casinos. Many are legal on paper but serve as fronts and launder money. Nightclubs, casinos and braindance bars bring in the most; the people of Night City love a good time, and no gang knows how to profit from it better. Human trafficking, prostitution, drugs and hit jobs fill the rest of the coffers.
Corporate clients visit the gang's establishments to relax, and the Claws have close ties to Arasaka's top managers. Arasaka hands them side jobs and pays them in cyberware and military grade weapons.
