Sunken Crypts are dungeons in the Swamp and the main place to farm Scrap Iron. The iron gate at the entrance opens with the Swamp Key, which drops from The Elder.

Where to Find It

Sunken Crypts only generate where the surrounding area is fully Swamp, at an altitude of 0 to 2 m, on ground with a terrain difference of 4 m or less, and at least 64 m from one another. Up to 175 can generate in a world, and world generation places them with priority. A Draugr and an Oozer each have a 30% chance to be waiting outside.

What's Inside

Inside are 20 to 30 randomly generated rooms, lit by green torches. Muddy Scrap Piles block the way between rooms, and you can mine them with any pickaxe for Scrap Iron, Leather Scraps and Withered Bones. Some rooms are separated by unlocked iron gates instead. Certain rooms hold Sunken Crypt Chests, Body Piles, and a Vegvisir that marks the nearest altar of Bonemass. A buzzing like flies usually means there is a Body Pile in a nearby room. The crypt counts as sheltered, so you only get the Wet effect when swimming a flooded corridor, and you can build a Campfire inside.

Notes

You keep the Swamp Key after using it.
Each chest rolls 4-5 times for loot, with at most one of each item.
Creatures from a Body Pile have a 15% chance of 1 star and a 2.25% chance of 2 stars. A Body Pile may spawn nothing while Draugr are in nearby rooms.
Draugr can spawn inside Muddy Scrap Piles and attack an adjacent player from within until you dig them out.
Green torches hit during a fight can be destroyed for good.
Dungeons sit high above the world, so drops from a Muddy Scrap Pile that clips through the walls can land outside the crypt or fall to the Swamp.
Two-handed maces such as the Iron Sledge and Stagbreaker hit through Muddy Scrap Piles without breaking them.
Sunken Crypts are better lit than Burial Chambers, though some rooms are darker.
