The Bronze Buckler is made for timing, not for hiding behind. It is the small round shield a Forge turns out for anyone who would rather parry a blow than soak it. It has 16 block armour, which becomes 40 on a parry thanks to its 2.5x bonus. Its materials come from the Black Forest, and it is made at a Forge.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Forge from:
- 10x Bronze, made at a Forge.
- 4x Wood, chopped from any tree.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Black Forest | Forge | spawn Bronze
| |
| Wood | All biomes | - | spawn Wood
|
When to Use It
It is an early-game shield. It needs Black Forest materials, so it comes after Eikthyr and the Antler Pickaxe.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Block armor | Durability | Forge level | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forge (Level 1) | 16 | 200 | 1 | |
| 2 | Forge (Level 2) | 22 | 250 | 2 | |
| 3 | Forge (Level 3) | 28 | 300 | 3 |
Properties
The 2.5x parry bonus is the whole point. It multiplies the shield's block armour on a successful parry, and a parry costs no stamina at all, where a block costs up to 10. A parrying buckler beats a tower shield of the same tier even when that tower shield is simply blocking.
On a parry, its 16 block armour becomes 40. That is more than any Black Forest tower shield blocks for, and it costs no stamina. The price is that a missed parry leaves you with a very thin block.
That makes it a skill shield. Learn the 0.25-second window and it is the best defence in the tier. Miss it and a Troll goes straight through.
Notes
- A block uses up to 10 stamina, in proportion to the damage that got through. It fails if that leftover damage fills your stagger bar (40% of maximum health) or if you do not have the stamina.
- Block force is the knockback dealt back to a melee attacker. It scales from 50% to 100% with the block armour actually used.
- Weapon types have their own parry bonuses too: 4x on a knife and 6x on Flesh Rippers. Both beat every shield, but only on the weapon's own small block armour.
