The Crude Bow is the first thing that lets you bring down a deer before it bolts. You build it at the workbench from wood and the Leather Scraps that every boar and Greyling in the Meadows drops. It deals 22 pierce damage. It is the weakest bow in the game, and that is the point: it is the one you can make first.
How to Craft
Crafted at a level 1 workbench from:
- 10x Wood: Chopped from any tree.
- 8x Leather Scraps: Dropped by boars and bats, and dug out of muddy scrap piles.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | All biomes | - | spawn Wood

| Leather Scraps | Meadows | - | spawn LeatherScraps
|
When to Use It
Opening hours. Everything it needs comes from the Meadows, so this is gear for a character who has just stood up.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other stat on this page is for quality 1, so the table below shows the ladder your own copy sits on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Pierce | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Workbench (Level 1) | 22 | 50 |
|
| 2 | Workbench (Level 2) | 25 | 100 |
|
| 3 | Workbench (Level 3) | 28 | 150 |
|
| 4 | Workbench (Level 4) | 31 | 200 |

Properties
It is inaccurate even at full draw, and some players hunt with a Flint Spear instead, which has less range but lands more of its throws. The bow deals 22 pierce damage for 4 stamina.
It is still the weapon that feeds you. A Deer will not stand still for a spear, and Deer Hide and meat are the first real armour and the first real food in the game.
Your skill matters more than the bow. Draw time falls from 2.5 seconds at Bows 0 to 0.5 at 100, and you reach the 0.8-second firing cap at about skill 85. Nothing else in the game improves fivefold just from using it.
Notes
- Holding the primary attack draws the bow, which raises accuracy and damage until you release. Blocking cancels the draw and keeps the arrow.
- Draw time is 2.5 seconds at skill 0 and 0.5 at 100, but a bow can only fire once every 0.8 seconds, a cap you reach at about skill 85.
- Arrow damage is added to the bow's base damage before anything else is calculated, so the arrow benefits from skill and quality too.
