Smith's Anvil is the block and hammer that lifts a forge up a level. It is listed under Crafting Stations as a forge improvement and made from 20x Iron set over a 5x Wood stump. Once it stands beside the fire, the better weapons and armour stop being greyed out on the crafting list.

How to Build It

It costs twenty Iron and five Wood, built with a Workbench in range and placed inside the radius of the Forge it is meant to upgrade. That radius is what people get wrong: an anvil a step too far out counts for nothing and the forge keeps showing the lower level, so watch the highlight when you place it. With only 100 durability, it belongs indoors with the rest of the smithy.
