Ore is dead weight in your pack until it goes through a Smelter. This squat stone furnace from the Crafting Stations tab is built from 20x Stone and 5x Surtling Cores. It is the machine that turns the copper, tin, iron and silver you haul home into bars you can build and forge with.

How to Build It

It takes twenty Stone and five Surtling Cores, with a Workbench in range. The cores come out of the burial chambers in the Black Forest, and they are the real gate on owning one. Feed Coal into one side and ore into the other, and keep the chute at the front clear, because the finished bars drop out there. It smokes heavily, so give it open sky or a proper vent above it, or the fire chokes and the smelting stops. At 2,000 durability the building itself is in no danger.
