The Wood Arrow is the first ammunition a Workbench will make. It is cut from nothing but Meadows timber and feeds the earliest bows until Flint comes along. It deals 22 pierce damage. At 22 total damage it ranks 22nd among ammunition, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 1 Workbench from:
- 8x Wood: chopped from any tree.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | All biomes | - | spawn Wood
|
When to Use It
This is opening-hours gear. Everything it takes comes from the Meadows, so it suits a character who has just stood up.
Properties
These are the only arrows that need no Feathers. That stays useful long after their 22 pierce damage stops mattering, because feathers come from birds and Deathsquitos and are the bottleneck on every other arrow in the game.
So these are the arrows you level Bows with. Wood is free, the skill is worth more than any bow in the list, and a stack fired into a Boar is an investment.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's own damage before anything else is worked out, which is why the loaded arrow or bolt, not the bow, decides what type of damage a shot deals.
- Bows shoot arrows and Crossbows shoot bolts, and neither can use the other's ammunition.
- With more than one kind in the inventory, right-click a stack to choose which one is shot.
