The Deathsquito puts ninety pierce damage on a body with ten health, and that is Plains arithmetic at its bluntest. It is the most common cause of death for players who wander out of the Black Forest a tier too early, because one sting kills an unarmoured viking and two kill one in bronze. Nothing else in Valheim punishes not listening quite so hard.
Behaviour
Deathsquitos fly, and they fly fast. One will spot you from a long way off and come straight at you, and its loud, unmistakable buzzing is your only real warning; the players who survive the Plains are the ones who stop walking the instant they hear it. In combat it hovers, darts in and lunges with its proboscis for 90 pierce in a narrow arc barely a metre and a half in front of it. Then it drifts back out while a cooldown of roughly ten seconds runs down. That lunge is its only attack. It does not flee at low health, does not call for help and cannot be staggered, so knocking it off balance is not an option. It also never gives up: sail near a Plains coast and one will follow you out over open water. Deathsquitos share a faction with Fulings and Lox, so they will never fight the locals for you, and one will often drift over a Fuling Village at the worst possible moment.
Where to Find It
They spawn anywhere in the Plains, day or night. They are uncommon rather than thick on the ground, with a cap of around three active in an area at once, and they favour open country, so you meet them on the long flat stretches of grass and barley between landmarks rather than inside buildings. They never spawn with stars, which is the one piece of good news: every deathsquito has the same ten health and the same ninety damage sting. No boss gates them, and that is exactly the problem, since a single boat landing on a Plains shore can put a player still eating Black Forest food right in range of one.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Almost any hit kills a deathsquito; the whole fight is about not getting hit first. Bows are a poor answer, because the target is small, fast and rarely flying straight by the time it is in range. The reliable method is to turn and face it, hold your ground, and swing or block as it commits to the lunge. A shield stops the sting outright and a parry kills it on the counter, but the window is short and you get no second chance if you misjudge it. Reach helps a lot: a spear or an atgeir lets you meet it before it arrives, and the swing arc of a two-hander catches it in the air. Never fight one while sailing, eating or building, because the animation lock kills more people than the insect does. If you are not yet in Plains gear, the Root Harnesk is the best single piece of armor you can wear here, since its pierce resistance roughly halves the sting and turns a one-shot into a scare.
- It ignores Spirit.
Drops
Every kill drops a Needle, the only way to make Needle Arrows and the Porcupine, and the one reason anyone hunts these on purpose.

Notes
- Despite their size, Deathsquitos are among the deadliest creatures because of their speed and high pierce damage.
