Almost every Valheim save starts with a Boar somewhere in the long grass, snorting and then charging. It is the weakest hostile creature in the game, with ten hit points and a headbutt most players can survive a dozen of. It is also the most useful, because it is the first animal in the Meadows you can pen, feed and breed into an endless supply of meat and leather.
Behaviour
A wild boar spots you, squeals and runs straight in. Its only attack is an upward flick of the head through a narrow arc, dealing blunt damage roughly every five seconds with barely a metre and a half of reach. The rhythm is what makes boars memorable, not the damage: a boar charges, hits, then backs off and circles before coming in again, and three of them taking turns around a half-naked new player can really get you killed. They chase you until they lose sight of you, then forget the whole thing and go back to rooting for food. Open flame scares them outright, so a raised torch scatters a group without a single swing. Approach crouched and they never notice you at all, which is the basis of every taming pen. A tamed boar follows you around, breeds readily and is harmless to everything, you included.
Where to Find It
Boars are common across the Meadows and only the Meadows. They spawn thinly over open grass at any hour, day or night, with up to four wandering an area at once. Two fixed spawns concentrate them: boar runestones, which spawn anywhere from one to nine at a time, and the abandoned farmsteads around the biome, which hold up to two each. Both groups are tied to their spawn point, which makes them awkward to herd home over any distance. Before Eikthyr is defeated, they also make up half of the very first raid, "Eikthyr rallies the creatures of the forest", arriving alongside Necks. One-star boars are uncommon and two-star boars are rare in the wild, but offspring inherit stars, so a single starred capture eventually breeds a whole starred herd.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Killing a boar takes no trick, and no damage type matters against it: every element and every weapon lands at full value, and with ten hit points a club, a Flint Spear or a well-thrown rock finishes it in a swing or two. Block and counter instead of dodging, because its stagger threshold is low and the riposte kills outright, and a wooden shield is plenty. The only real danger is being surrounded, so back into a rock face or a doorway and let them come one at a time, or just wave a torch and watch the group break up. With most of them, though, you should not fight at all. Crouch, drop Raspberries, Blueberries, Carrots, Turnips, Onions or Mushrooms within a metre, and leave them undisturbed in a fenced pen for about half an hour of play. Three pieces of food and no interruptions turn the game's first enemy into your first farm.
- It ignores Spirit damage.
Drops
Every kill drops Meat and Leather Scraps, enough between them for a first cooked meal and a first set of armour.

Level Variants
A creature can spawn at one of three levels, shown as stars beside its name. Each level is rolled separately at spawn, so a two-star is rarer than a one-star. The difference goes beyond the numbers: a starred boar is recoloured or larger, so you can see it coming.

Notes
