Iron driven through a timber does what no amount of plain carpentry will. The Wood Iron Beam is the horizontal member of the reinforced set in the Supports tab. It takes two parts Wood to one of Iron and is far stiffer than either alone, so builders reach for it when a floor, a gallery or a roofline has to cross more open air than ordinary beams will hold.
How to Build It
Each costs two Wood and one Iron. Unlike the rest of the timber pieces, these need a Forge in range rather than a Workbench, both to place and to repair. What the metal buys is reach: a run of these carries support much further out from its post than plain wood manages, which is the whole reason for spending iron on a beam. The rain still gets at them, so keep the long spans under a roof.
