The Hym is a cruel Specter, a kind of wraith. It does not attack its victim directly. Instead, it latches onto a person who carries a terrible guilt and feeds on that guilt until the victim breaks. A hym is met in Skellige, in the secondary quest Possession.
Lore
Most monsters prey on the innocent: late merchants, careless children and travelers who wander into dark woods out of curiosity. None of these need fear a hym. These wraiths only cling to truly despicable people who have committed some unspeakable crime. To everyone else, they stay completely invisible. As the An Skellig druid Svargmitt put it, "Some men have got good reason to fear their own shadows."
When a hym does show itself to the one it torments, it appears as a tall, shadowy figure shaped like a man, with long, sharp claws. Yet a hym does not sink those claws into its victim. It drains its victim's strength through suffering instead.
Behaviour
A hym speaks in a voice that only its victim can hear. It drives the victim to acts of violence, aggression and self-harm. It seizes on the guilty person's worst fears and weaves them into horrible visions. Slowly, the poor soul is driven mad.
A person haunted by a hym cannot sleep in peace. The nightmares come more and more often and feel more and more real. At times the victim grows extremely tense. Such a person may shout pleas or threats at invisible phantoms, or confess the crime out loud in the hope of ending the torment. Confession brings no relief. The hym does not leave until it has destroyed its victim's mind or driven the victim to suicide.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Specter Oil. Igni works well against a hym, and a Moon Dust bomb is effective too.
