Kernun is a Leshen, one of the Relicts. It lurks in the woods near the Loggers' Hut, right outside the walls of Novigrad. It is the target of a level 25 witcher contract, so it belongs to the middle of the game.
Lore
Novigrad is the greatest city in the world. It looks like proof that mankind can tame nature. Yet right outside its walls lies the Novigrad Wilderness. Anyone who walks into it soon learns that human rule ends at the city walls.
Kernun is one of the monsters that made its lair in that thick tangle of trees. It is an old and powerful leshen. Like others of its kind, it killed anyone who strayed into its territory, and it did so with great cruelty. A woodcutter named Louis Closster recalled warning a man that something lurked in those woods. The man refused to believe it.
Behaviour
Kernun guards its forest with every weapon a leshen has. It tears victims apart with razor-sharp claws. It sends strangling plants shooting out of the ground. It also feeds trespassers to packs of hungry wolves.
The leshen hides deep in the woods and is drawn out through its totem. Once Kernun is dead, the way is clear for the loggers. The woods slowly fall to the ax, and one day they may vanish along with the monsters living in them.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Relict Oil. Fire is Kernun's great weakness, so cast Igni at every chance. A Dimeritium Bomb also works well. Keep Quen up for protection as well.
In battle, Kernun commands the animals and plants of its forest. Expect wolves to join the fight and roots to burst out of the ground.
Kernun Map Location and Quest Guide
- Take the contract from the notice board at the Cunny of the Goose and talk to Brean Hotsch.
- Find the woodcutter's hut where Hotsch is staying.
- Follow the wagon tracks with the Witcher Senses to where the monster attacked.
- Investigate the site of the monster's attack.
- Follow the sounds with the Witcher Senses to find the leshen's totem.
- Destroy the totem to lure the leshen out, then kill it.
- Take a trophy and collect the reward from Brean Hotsch.

Kernun is the target of Contract: Lord of the Wood, a contract near Novigrad. The notice hangs on the board at the Cunny of the Goose. Brean Hotsch posted it after something attacked the loggers working near the Loggers' Hut. Talking to the witnesses is optional.
The wagon tracks at the hut lead to the site of the attack. A close look at the scene shows the killer is a leshen. The leshen must be lured out, so the next step is to find its totem by following the sounds with the Witcher Senses. Destroying the totem brings Kernun out to fight. After the kill, take a trophy and return to Brean Hotsch for the reward.
